Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a technique developed by Francine Shapiro (1987) to help people process traumatic memories and overwhelming or distressing life experiences.
Unlike other treatments that focus directly on changing the emotions, thoughts and responses, EMDR therapy focuses on the memory and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain. The left and right sides of the brain are enabled to 'talk' and form new neural pathways, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms.
Through EMDR, I can help you challenge your negative core beliefs, feel less controlled by the power of your traumatic experiences and heal from the past.
anxiety and depression
Depression can cause feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, irritability and a significant decrease in energy. Anxiety can cause restlessness, nervousness, a sense of impending danger or doom, physical symptoms such as sweating, shaking, increased heart rate and excessive worrying.
Utilizing traditional psychotherapy, Ego State, DBT and Internal Family Systems informed therapy, I focus on the client’s short term and long term goals to help them achieve stability and satisfaction in life.

trauma disorders
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is developed after a person has difficulty recovering from experiencing or witnessing a terrifying, intense or overwhelming event. Symptoms include flashbacks, dissociation, hyper-vigilance, avoidance of situations, and symptoms of anxiety and depressed mood.
Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) is generally developed in response to chronic, prolonged or repetitive exposures to a series of traumatic experiences.
Dissociative disorders often develop along side trauma disorders. Symptoms can include depersonalization and/or derealization and manifest through a loss of connection between thoughts, memories, feelings, the environment, behavior and self identity.
Through parts work, resourcing, grounding exercises and facilitation of communication within your internal system, I can help you become more integrated, feel connected to your core self and gain the ability to enjoy life in the present moment.
